The School Day and Term Dates

The School Day

Our school day begins at 8.45am with transitions from transport and a wellbeing check-in during our morning breakfast club. Structured lessons begin at 9.00am and finish at 3.00pm, followed by supported transport home.

All learners take part in curriculum lessons covering English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Art, PE, PSHE and ICT. We believe that, regardless of their starting point, all learners can achieve and make progress. Progress, no matter how small, is always recognised and celebrated. Our skilled staff also provide personalised learning interventions in the core subjects of Maths and English to ensure every learner receives the support they need to succeed.

Learners benefit from structured social periods designed to support and enhance their social skills, including taking turns in games, engaging in conversations and developing positive interactions with their peers. Lunch is eaten together, enabling learners to enjoy their meal alongside familiar staff and peers. Social breaks and lunchtimes are carefully structured and supervised, with a focus on developing social confidence, trying new experiences, promoting healthy choices and fostering independence.

Learners who find social times more challenging are supported by staff to build the confidence and skills needed to join their peers during outdoor social periods.

We encourage learners to experience the wider world beyond school and regularly provide opportunities for educational visits, as well as reward-based trips, to enrich their learning and personal development.

Our School Day

A typical day in our school looks like this:

Food at Brook School

Brook School provides all meals throughout the school day. This includes breakfast on arrival at school, a main meal at lunchtime and any snacks learners need throughout the day. Fruit is always available. All our meals are prepared onsite and provide daily nutritious and delicious food to support good dietary health for all learners. We offer a main lunch option, a choice of jacket potato with various fillings, sandwiches or wraps. Learners are provided with a written and visual menu to support them in making their own food choices for the day. We have an on-site water fountain where learners can access fresh drinking water throughout the day.

Uniform

School uniform will be explored with learners during the first term after opening and learners will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred items.
