SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) at Brook School

Brook School is a specialist setting dedicated to supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We recognise and celebrate the strengths, abilities and achievements of every young person and are committed to providing a safe, nurturing and purposeful environment in which they can thrive. We value diversity in all its forms and are proud of the individuality each learner brings to our school community.

As a specialist provision, meeting SEND needs is at the core of everything we do. Our curriculum and wider provision are designed to remove barriers to learning, raise attainment and ensure that every learner can access meaningful and relevant educational opportunities. All learners are valued, respected and supported as integral members of the school community.

Every learner at Brook School has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). These plans guide our approach, ensuring that provision is carefully tailored to individual needs. Each learner has a personalised support plan which outlines their strengths, areas of need, targets and the strategies staff use to support progress. Learners are actively involved in reviewing their targets and reflecting on their development throughout the year.

Our SENDCo oversees the implementation and monitoring of SEND provision and leads the annual EHCP review process. Learners are encouraged to contribute to their annual review meetings so that their voice is heard and their views are reflected in planning. We work closely with parents and carers, recognising that strong home–school partnerships are essential to achieving the best outcomes for our young people.

High-quality, adaptive teaching is central to our approach. Subject content, tasks and assessments are differentiated to meet individual needs, supported by skilled teachers and teaching assistants. Structured interventions and targeted programmes are delivered where appropriate to support communication, literacy, emotional regulation and social development.

Brook School works collaboratively with a range of external professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, CAMHS, Educational Psychologists and other specialist services. This integrated approach ensures that learners receive holistic support and can access the full curriculum in a way that promotes confidence, independence and long-term success.
